Dear Robotham,

Many thanks for your letter of the 13th. I am sorry that any conversation we may have had with John Howlett regarding AC.9 may have taken a wrong course. Actually, so far as I know, this matter has never been discussed with anyone outside this firm, other than with John Howlett or his technical representative. I have no first-hand knowledge of what you were doing with AC.9 and all that came to my ears was that following a recent visit by Markland he reported - I believe to Pilkington - that Rolls-Royce were considering dropping their experiments with AC.9 and carrying on with lead bronze as a standard.

Pilkington will no doubt be writing to you on this matter, as we are most anxious to put you yourself right, and this Company also with you.

It would appear that the matter has been somewhat exaggerated, and I will definitely write John Howlett confirming to him what I have told you, that this matter has never been mentioned outside the three organizations - yours, Wellworthy and this Company. We know of no case of any other supplier having at any time discussed the matter of AC.9.
