PROPELLER SHAFTS. We are hoping to standardise very shortly the Hardy Spicer Propeller Shaft, which has a parallel welded tube construction. In view of this, we do not think it worth while experimenting with the welded swaged tube. We do not think any bottom gear testing would show up trouble in such a tube. We think that high speed running, very near whirling speed, would be most likely to cause trouble. We have no rig on which we can run say 500 hours at 4,500 revs. It is very unlikely that another car will go to France which has not got the Hardy Spicer Propeller Shaft. In view of this we do not think that we shall ever be in a position to issue a standardisation sheet for the welded swaged tube. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
