'V' SERIES.
STEERING.

We have seen a telegram from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} suggesting that the difference in the 'V' series steering is due to lifting the increased weight. We remember that this was suggested at Derby and it was thought might account for some of the lightness of the Hispano. We wonder whether this is a suggestion or whether it is a result of further tests you have made?

Making a rough calculation and assuming that the efficiency of the whole mechanism is about 50% it appears as though a load increasing to about 40 lbs. might be required on the wheel to lift the chassis .250". This might be 34 lbs. with the old 40/50 engine.

We shall send you some figures immediately, but at a rough estimate if the weight lifting has anything to do with it or any part of the geometry of the front axle anything to do with it we think there should be a difference between the locks of nearly 3 times. This leads us to think that it will be found that the weight lifting or the front axle is not a very important feature because though we remember one car which appeared to be slightly more on one lock than another, we remember another which was if anything the opposite way.
