-2- 10.6.38. (4) To effect a compromise we moved the link on the pedal. This gives a theoretical pedal ratio of - Front 14 x 4 x 4 x 1.23 ----------------- = 29.6 3 x .95 x .785 Rear 14 x 4 x .595 x 2 x 0.32 ------------------------ = 35.7 3 x .95 owing to the fact that the link was now inclined a forward component was produced which reduced the amount of front braking. The brakes still were spongy and though at slow speeds they were quite effective, it was still possible to press the pedal to the floor boards though the increased pressure gave very little increase to the amount of braking available. In view of these results it was realized that we would have to use heavy pedal pressures to obtain any really effective braking. This arrangement was then dismantled to allow the servo operated front brakes to be fitted. SCHEME (2) 2.6.38.
