1/S-3 Experimental Department 10th February 1937. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}8/AP. Mr. A.{Mr Adams} Alltree. Dear Sir, We are interested in your method of operating synchromesh gear changes, described in the "Motor" of February 9th. We are wondering whether you can give us any further information about this arrangement. As far as we can see from this description of its' working, we think that the spring which provides the end load of the synchromesh cones has to be counteracted when ever the clutch pedal is depressed, and that this will, therefore, greatly increase the pedal effort when de-clutching. It is possible that you have a car on which we can try this arrangement. If this is so, and you are near Derby in the near future, we should be glad if you would call at these Works and give us a demonstration run. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
