Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}10/JH.24.3.39. re Reservoir Battery - Chassis Laboratory. Two of the eight cells which comprise the reservoir battery have failed, owing to the plates buckling and bursting their glass containers; the plates of the remaining four cells are incapable of holding a charge, and near the end of their life. We estimate the cost of the renewal of plates and replacement of two broken containers to be approximately £30. and these would last four or five years. Since some source of low tension heavy current supply is essential, we would like to replace the tank with a Motor Generator, which although of a higher initial cost, would last for many years, requires very little attention (a set of new brushes every two or three years, costing a few shillings) occupies less space, cleaner and less dangerous to the operators, besides providing a more constant low tension supply to the Laboratory. The existing tank requires constant attention and handling of acid from the Laboratory assistants in order to keep it in a good condition. Attached is a quotation from Cannings' Co.Ltd. for a suitable motor-generator. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
