ACCIDENT TO OPEN TOURING R-R CH.58S6.
24.9.26.

Whilst proceeding up Bloomfield St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} from London Rd. and was about to cross Osmaston Rd. (on the 24.9.26 at 2 p.m. approximately) to go into Reginald St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, an enclosed car coming along Osmaston Rd. from the town, struck the off-side wing of CH.58S6 with his near-side front wing and the off-side front spring shackle bolt of CH.58S6 tore off the running board, tool box and rear wing of the other car. The off-side front wing was damaged only.

I approached the corner very slowly sounding the Klaxon (knowing the dangerous nature of that part of the road) and proceeded a little way out of Bloomfield St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} but not far enough to see either to left or right along Osmaston Rd., when suddenly an enclosed car (DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}6870) and driven by Mr. F.{Mr Friese} Beech (the owner) 64, Cherry-tree Lane, Stockport, at a good speed, well in on his left-hand side, came along. I applied the brakes and the RR. car stopped dead - DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}6870 came straight on and struck the standing RR. car as described above, and then swerved to the opposite side of the road, coming to rest still facing the direction he was originally travelling. I did not hear any horn sounded and Mr.Coverley of the Expl: Dept: who was accompanying me, will corroborate.

Mr. Beech and myself exchanged addresses and Police Sgt. Hodgson (or Hodges ?) of Bloomfield St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Police Station, took all particulars. There was no police on point-duty at the time.

I would point out that if I had been travelling at the time of impact, DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}6870 would not have been able to have carried on in a straight path (this is proved by the nature of the damage to his car) but would have struck the RR. car broadside.

There are three independent witnesses who will testify that I was in the right and they are :-

Messrs. R.{Sir Henry Royce} Collis, 37 Backsitwell St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}
E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Adams, 16 Liversage St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}
A.{Mr Adams} Boole, 71 Litchurch St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}

The DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}6870 did not have any witnesses.
