To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} x7250 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M15.1.27. 40/50 BONNET AND RADIATOR. X.8260 X.7260 X.8250 X.7250 With further reference to this question, and your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG13.1.27, we are putting up a proposal to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, which by a coincidence is very similar to what he himself proposes, and at the same time is agreeable to the Sales Dept. with whom it has been discussed verbally. Briefly it consists of dropping the height of the top tank in the centre .4", raising the height of the top of the tank above the frame .5", reducing the length of the tubes possibly to 4.4" or 4.5", reducing the dia. of the tubes if you are in agreement that that is a possible advantage, reducing the space occupied by the shutters by about .2", and probably reducing the radius of the top tank at the shoulders in order to preserve the proportions of the present appearance. We understand that Sales have a model very closely on these lines, and we suggest that it might be used for inspection. In the meanwhile we are preparing one or two drawings shewing this suggestion which we propose to send to R.{Sir Henry Royce} from which we expect we shall get a certain definite expression of opinion. With reference to the visit to Derby, as it is propose in conjunction with the Sales officials, and presumably there will be models etc. to inspect, would you kindly let me know what date is convenient. Since writing my DAL/M13.1.27 I have found that you reported the tubes 4.4" of the std. dia. long were about 4% less efficient than the standard length. I do not suppose that you would care to lose this amount of efficiency? DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
