R.R. 493A (50m) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -2- Expl. No. REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS/LG22. 5. 25. 2nd. cross member (channel shaped (F.51101) sheared through 3 1/2" from off-side frame member and starting to crack 4" from near side after 36 hrs. 30 mins. New member fitted this shearing through after 31 hrs. 20 mins. The fracture in both cases were identical, both in position and shape across section. On completing 100 hrs. test of chassis third 2nd. cross member was found cracked 3 1/2" from near-side frame member. Considering that this member is subject to a stress similar to that of the other tube section cross member, it would probably be an improvement to increase radius of horizontal flanges or make member of thicker material. Croners of flanges both near-side and off-side of 3rd. cross member broken off. The first corner cracked through after 65 hrs. and three out of four on each flange had gone on completion of 90 hrs. Spring stops on swivel pins F.53402 sheared off due to breaking of rear springs and weight being thrown on to these stops. contd :- | ||
