COMPARATIVE MERITS OF HISPANO AND 40/50 TYPE MATRICES.

We have proved that the 40/50 fan does more than three times as much to improve the cooling system as that of the Hispano. It is therefore manifestly impossible to compare the merits of the relative radiator cores with the fans on.

We have taken as a basis of comparison the quantity of heat dissipated by each core at 30 m.p.h. both cars being fitted with louvres, but no fan. The results show that per sq.ft. of face area the RR. matrix is the better of the two. Per cu.ft. of core, however, the ornamented ribbon type of matrix as fitted to the Hispano, is the more efficient. This rather confirms the results given in other radiator research papers.

We should be inclined to say that we cannot derive the full benefit from our great depth of core at 30 m.p.h. with no fan, and that therefore this is not quite fair to the air tube type of core.
