EXTRACT FROM MEMORANDUM GWB11/DN8.3.26. Re 11-EX. During 50,000 miles running of this car, I found that normally explosions did not occur in the silencer when over-running, but that from time to time they did happen. After careful consideration, I had attributed this to the occasional sticking of dirt or grit on the butterfly throttle or on the induction pipe where this throttle seats itself, so that it did not fully close off the induction pipe. COPY OF HANDWRITTEN NOTE FROM P.N. 18th February, 1926. EXHAUST EXPLOSIONS IN NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I. If the throttle lever on gradient is in the closed position when using engine as a brake (clutch in), there should be no more of these exhaust noises than with Silver Ghost. If there are, then the butterfly valve requires attention. P.N. | ||
