R.{Sir Henry Royce} W. Harvey-Bailey, Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
Derby.

Dear Mr. Bailey,

I have gone into the particulars that you sent me, with the idea of giving you what information I could in the way of a comparison.

It is rather difficult in some cases for us to make a comparison which is of any value, but with the information I give you on the attached sheet you may be able to do it for yourselves. The reason we cannot is because we do not know how the price you quote is arrived at so far as Stamp Shop overheads etc. are concerned. In any event, I have given you the price per piece and the weight of our own equivalent article.

It would seem that in most cases you have no cause to complain of the price that you are paying, excepting with one or two of the stampings made in your own Stamp Shop, which might be expensive when you have added your Stamp Shop overheads. Also your crankshaft appears to be more expensive, but this is very likely legitimate in view of the much smaller spread of die costs that you would probably have.

Do not hestitate to ask any more questions or for more information, I shall be only too glad to give it you if I possibly can, and if I feel I ought not then I shall say so and you will understand the reason.

Perhaps you would like to come down and discuss some of the figures on the spot, in which case I shall be very pleased to see you here and arrange to do so.

Yours sincerely,
