Design note regarding a square-edged chamfered bore to clean foreign matter from a shaft.

The intention is that the more or less square edge at the forward end of the chamfered bore should clean from the shaft particles of foreign matter when the sleeve is slid upon it, and so prevent them wedging between the shaft and sleeve when the latter is moved in the opposite direction.
