Dear Mr. Minchin,

Your letter ref. M/B. of the 28th inst. to hand.

I do not think you have quite understood our proposal which was simply to leave the present charging switch as it is, i.e. without "charge" in the first position of the switch from the 'off' position whereas you considered me to imply that "charge" would be on in every "on" position.

The idea was to consider one "on" position of the switch as the running position, the other two for testing the magneto and battery respectively, but it would not be necessary to add "charge" to the battery testing position, so that this position could be used in an emergency for running the car with the dynamo not charging.

In the unlikely event of something happening to the electrical system of the nature you suggest, surely as an alternative, if it were desired to run on magneto only without charge, it could be considered a reasonable course to jump out and detach the central exciting wire from the dynamo.

Therefore I do not think that there is anything in your statement that it would be a pity. The point is that it was never my intention to alter the switch from the present, so as to add charge to the first position, and this whether that first position be B or MB. Besides

Contd.
