X9770 To CWB. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG13.1.25. 12-AU CAR. We are returning 12-AU car to London tomorrow. We consider that the car is definitely improved. Riding in the back of the car, it is very good. On the front seats, there are noticeable booms, but we are satisfied that they do not come from the transmission. To improve the car further we should have to carry out considerable investigations on the engine. We do not feel justified in doing this because the car is now quite a good car and as the engine is practically an obsolete type, we do not want to spend time in carrying out investigation work which we do not think we should profit by.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} The worst feature on the car now is possibly the tendency for the engine to thud on magneto ignition. This was not complained of when the car was sent to the Works. The chief alteration we have done to this car is to change the side shaft gears. The side shaft gears are now fitted to 12-AU car are the ones which were in 9-PK car - the car which you ran in France. We should like to have your impression of the car after you have tried it.
