Thanks for Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.19.2.32. I should be interested to know the real reason that caused you to raise this matter because on enquiry from N. about this sealing of hubs, it appears to be a very simple and inexpensive matter.

They tell me that the split pin used in the axle nut castellation is a drilled one, through the small hole of which a piece of copper wire is passed, twisted round and sealed with a small lead seal. The whole time occupied is not more than two minutes.

Whilst I appreciate that, as the customer may remove them, it is not proof against incorrect dismantling, there is, however, the useful feature that, in the event of trouble, the existence or non-existence of the seal is more or less proof of whether the parts have been dismantled or tampered with since issued by us.
