Re: 20/25 HP. EXPERIMENTAL CAR GREEN BODY (number unknown)

Since my return to Paris and after having again tried our CHW.76 demonstration car, I should like to make the following observations:

ENGINE

The experimental car is not so powerful, nor is its maximum speed so great, although I believe our demonstration car has a much heavier body.

Detonations are much in evidence when using ordinary commercial petrol. Possibly the engine requires decarbonizing and tuning up.

There is a bad rattle from the timing gear, which is worse than our demonstration car.

The noise from the carburetter is a great improvement on our demonstration car.

The petrol consumption is very good. It worked out at between 20 and 21 miles to the gallon.

The slow speed running is poor, probably because the engine requires tuning up.

The maximum speed I obtained was 75 m.p.h. on the speedometer.

On two occasions I had to replace the dynamo charge control fuse. Charging generally seemed to be very erratic.

STEERING

The steering is distinctly fidgety between 50 and 55 m.p.h. It is not so good as the steering on our demonstration car.

GEAR BOX

Gear rattle can be observed on third and fourth gear, and after the oil is hot, this becomes distinctly unpleasant.

CLUTCH

The clutch was very good and I never observed any sign of slipping such as was experienced on our demonstration car.
