E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hives Esq.
Messrs Rolls Royce Limited,
Derby.

Dear Mr. Hives,

You very kindly said that you would go through the paper, which I am preparing, to read before the Automotive Engineers of America. I am enclosing you a first draft of this paper and would be very much obliged if you would let me have your comments and criticisms.

I was sorry to hear from Mr. Sidgreaves this morning, that the conference in London on this matter was not very satisfactory from our point of view.

I feel, myself, that a big mistake is being made, as the opportunity before the British motor world that would arise if they could establish a lead over foreign countries in reorientation of design, which nearly all authorities believe is bound to come, would be of considerable national value.

If the enclosed paper does not, in your opinion, contain any fallacies, perhaps it would be advantageous for you to send it, for information, in the direction of the opposition, and I enclosed a photograph together with the paper which shows the form of car of the latest design.

May I take this opportunity of expressing my great appreciation to yourself and Mr. Roebottom for the very helpful manner in which you assisted me in getting the data of our present car.
