Rg{Mr Rowledge} [STAMP: RECEIVED SEP 19 1925] 67, NORWICH UNION CHAMBERS Corner of { CONGREVE STREET, EDMUND STREET, BIRMINGHAM. 18th September 1925. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Rowledge, Esq., Rolls Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Sir, Clifford Rectifier. I wish to bring to your notice particulars of a simple and inexpensive device for preventing dilution by petrol and water vapour of lubricating oil in motor vehicles. As an instance of the advantages to be gained by fitting this device I instance a case of a car that has been run over 35,000 miles with only one charge of oil and is still running on the same oil which shows practically no loss of viscosity. The device is automatic, does not interfere with lubrication of engine or car, requires no alteration of design to engine and functions perfectly. It measures 12 inches in length and weighs 30 ozs, and if made in quantities can be produced at a very low price. Apart from the saving of oil and petrol this device enables the car manufacturer to specify the lubricating oil best fitted for his engine knowing that the viscosity of the oil will continue unchanged for a very long period if not indefinitely. When new oil is now put in a car, it is necessary to provide for the dilution which subsequently takes place by using a heavier oil than otherwise would be recommended. That sets up friction. As the oil becomes diluted it becomes an inefficient seal as well as lubricant. By overcoming this trouble this device increases the life of the car, develops more power, saves petrol, repairs expense, and does this at a cost which is absolutely trifling. Sample devices are already being fitted to British Chassis. [WATERMARK/STAMP on right side: CLAXTON] | ||
