Inspection Dept. reported (Report Y-96) that in the last few consignments of Lodge sparking plugs (C.65) it was found that some plugs were marked 35 and others 45 and asked for an explanation, as plugs were being turned down when being required for despatch purposes by the Allocation Dept., although the plugs appear to be all identical. We put the matter up to Lodge Plugs Ltd. and this morning we have had a visit from their representative, Mr. F.{Mr Friese} Perry, who explained that all the plugs which we have referred to as C.65 are known to them (Lodge Plugs Ltd) as C. plugs without any identifying number at all. He pointed out that we should find that the letter C. appears by itself on one of the flats of the hexagon of the plug and that the figures 65, 35 and 45 referred to appear on another flat of the hexagon. These figures he explained are private manufacturing marks indicating to the Lodge Co. the date the plug was made and the name of the inspector through whose hands the plug finally passed. Whenever figures as well as a letter are used to identify the pattern of a plug, the figures and the letter appear together on the same flat of the hexagon. In view of the foregoing it will be necessary for everyone concerned to recognise that the plugs which we have referred to as C.65 are purely and simply C. plugs without the addition of any figures.
