1269 . HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/W. Bell. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std7/R.16.5.38. P.III - WATER PUMP TEST RIG. Will you please carry out the following work in connection with the above rig on which we are investigating P.III production water pump failures. This work is also of value for Wraith, as the Wraith and P.III pumps are, in many respects, identical:- (1) Rebuild test pump which has been in use on rig with new spindle which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. will supply, new bearings, standard production packings (Palmetto) and aluminium spacing washer omitted, and check up initial end play and clearances as before. Will you also fit the new standard coupling spider (which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. will supply) in conjunction with the above pump, and will you fit the pump to the engine so that it has .008 parallel misalignment. (2) Check up customer's pump (which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. will hand to you) for truth of bearings and gland bore with pump saddle. (3) After test (50 hours) with pump as (1) examination, will you please fit a modified front bearing W/M bush to the test pump so that clearance between rotor and pump casing is increased by .030, and re-build pump with .005 end play of rotor, and, approximately, .010 clearance between rotor and pump cover. (4) After above, will you please fit up the Wraith water pump (requested in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.14/JH.9.5.38) on the rig engine. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
