JH/KES 28th March, 1938. W. C. Devereux, Esq., High Duty Alloys Ltd., Buckingham Avenue, Trading Estate, SLOUGH, Bucks. My dear Dev, I was down at Bristol the other day and talking to them about A.C.6. and they have sent me along a main floating bearing for their big end rod. This is a solid bearing, approximately 3" diameter and slightly over 1/8" thick. Their previous trial of a similar material was, I understand, a failure, and I rather gathered when talking it over with one or two people at Rolls, that, in the early stages, they put up certain materials for trial which were not as good as the material we are now working on. As this trial is a very important one indeed, I would like to know from you and also from Rolls that the material and information we have is right up to date so that we can go along safely with this trial. Incidentally we are making some bearings for E.R.A. and I am starting to get out a schedule of plant to put in for the job, but I thought that, in view of the importance of this Bristol trial, I would like to have an assurance from you that everything is right up to the minute. Yours sincerely, | ||
