To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Messrs John Marstons expressed a desire to quote us for making the Wraith Radiator, complete less shell and shutter assembly. We supplied them, therefore, with necessary drawings etc. and they have given us an approximate figure of £6. 15. 0. G/Rb.{R. Bowen} has given us cost figures for the corresponding article produced in these Works (Wraith Radiator to LOP.EW.1805 less shell parts) which amount to £10. 15. 10. Hence it appears that by buying the inner radiator complete from Marstons and making and fitting the shell and shutters ourselves we could save approximately £4. 0. 0. per car. We should like to have your ruling as to whether this procedure is likely to be adopted if Messrs Marstons product proves satisfactory on test etc. Messrs Marstons are willing to make up sample radiators, sharing the expense with us, and cost the radiator in detail, provided there is a definite likelihood of our buying the radiator from them if they can show a material saving over our own figure.
