ORIGINAL.

SECRET.

10,000 MILES ON 'SS{S. Smith}'. X7941 (crossed out) X7620 X7300.

We have had a telegram to say that they have completed 2300 miles on the SS.{S. Smith} car no faults having developed. We are arranging during the inspection of the car, at the end of 5000 miles, to make adjustments to correct the starter motor. Our experience on two further cars at the Works (19-EX and 20-EX) has shewn that there is no reason why this should not be reliable if the correct adjustments are made.

We are also examining the clutch because the fault of this clutch not stopping is not manifest on any of the other cars and it is obviously not a design feature but a variation in the manufacture.

We are hoping to get this work done without any appreciable delay in the running programme.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}
