From 'R' regarding overrun vibration, suggesting a thicker shaft and changes to piston weight and engine suspension instead of a heavier flywheel.

TO S. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R6/M29.2.24. Copy to O.J. P.S. E.R. H.S. B.H. OVERRUN VIBRATION. ORIGINAL x4604 x9040 x9530 The thicker shaft looks good and should push the period well up out of the way if what we think is right. Do not trouble about heavier flywheel. It will not be wanted for this period and would only alter its intensity. It will do no good for the vibrations which are felt from the pistons. These would be improved by reducing their weight and by improving the engine suspension so that flywheel is no good unless we strike a period. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
