Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Dept., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq. In reply to your communication of the 25th in respect to pistons for 3 1/4" diameter cylinder bore, it so happens that we are just on the point of completing foundry equipment for producing a piston of this size and we expect to be testing the die about the middle of next week. There are, however, certain points of difference between this piston and the Bentley, apart from diameter, which are of such a character that it might be possible for you to accommodate. They are as follows:- Bentley C.140. Compression height .... 2.270" 2.310" Distance between bosses ... 1.365" 1.496" Diameter of gudgeon pin ... .750" .875" [Handwritten notes to the right of the table: 2.310 2.270 ----- -.040] The length of the skirt below the gudgeon pin of C.140 is somewhat shorter than the Bentley, but for purposes of experiment this would be unimportant. We are of the opinion too, that 7/8" diameter gudgeon pin would be better proportioned in a 3 1/2" | ||
