R MSS DEPARTMENTAL MEMO. Issued 28th March 1911 R.R. 348a (100 H) (P.744. 29.11.10). E.P. 7992. This column is for Name of Person addressed. C.J. DATE. 28/3/11 x441 R8/D28311 Referring to the previous note on the question of piston rings, we find that the pinned rings are giving generally a tighter engine than the new double rings unpinned. I have, therefore, instructed the Drawing Office to alter the sheets of all engines unbuilt, - the two lower rings to be of our old single standard type previous to the introduction of the double ring, and these to be pinned at right angles to the piston pin, one on each side.
