HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rh{R. Hollingworth} (handwritten) 1010 (handwritten) Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/ML.4.5.41. TWO-PIECE BLOCKS AND CYLINDERS. We are asked to use D.T.D.424 for the Leyland Meteor engine wherever we can. We therefore want to try out two blocks and heads in this material. I was thinking of getting Vickers to dothe casting but Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} suggests that this should be done here. I have spoken to the Foundry and they do not anticipate any casting difficulties. Will you therefore please instruct them to produce two sets of pieces. I want Leyland's to machine these heads and blocks but Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} considers that you will have to help them by the loan of tools and also education if they are ever to be able to make the bits. We have, by some means, to produce two further engines in addition to the three that we already have, by the end of July. These two new engines are to be fitted to a couple of super tanks which are being rushed through for type test. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
