RE SPEED BODY FOR "SWALLOW" - ("PEREGRINE".)
I have the impression that it would be worth while obtaining a design for a speed body for our third model.
This would not be a single seater speed body but a 2 seated boat shaped body, with the following peculiarities:-
The driver's seat would be moved about 2" nearer the centre of the car: because of this he should have ample elbow room in a narrow body which would appear to be about 40" wide. Close beside him but say 12" further back would be the second seat which would also be pushed towards the centre of the car, say 1" more than usual. This seat need not have so much elbow room but the passenger must be so far back as not to interfere with the elbow room of the driver. This is a boat shaped 2 seater body, without dickey, with a stern end shaped to reduce wind resistance. Such a body with a suitable gear, and very light in build, would suit many likely purchasers who want a smart speedy little car.
* It would be built low in body and hood and have splashers having very little wind resistance, even if they were not very effective. !*
Should this be decided, West WitteringHenry Royce's home town could assist with such a design.
R.{Sir Henry Royce}
