V6016 By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Sft{Mr Swift}/Mr Brock. EFC. absent EFCl/AD23.10.30. Dictated 21.10.30. X.6016. RE - SIX SETS OF REDUCED CHARGE SWITCHING ARRANGEMENT. Further to our EFC2/AD17.10.30 we have now completed the tests of these 6 sets of apparatus and are handing same back to Mr.Brock. In regard to the dynamos, we shall, in due course as a result of observations made on these six machines, be issuing a specification of production test applicable generally to this type of machine. We should like to call attention to the fact that on several of the machines the clearances between the bottom faces of the brush holders and the commutators are in excess of the top limit previously given, also to the fact that the end covers become rather difficult to remove when the machines are hot, as a result of the unequal expansion of the aluminium and the steel. Also, we have noted that the pigtail ends are rather badly fitted into their terminal lugs in such a manner that there is danger of some of the strands of the pigtails being cut by the edges of the lug. The distribution boxes have all satisfactorily passed test and no further remarks are called for. This also applies to the switchboxes and resistance units. The necessary Specification of production tests of these various units will shortly be available. EFC. | ||
