X.8781. COMBINED MAIN SWITCH AND RELAY SWITCH UNIT.

SPECIFICATION OF PRODUCTION, INSPECTION, ADJUSTMENT & TEST.

I. INSPECTION.

(1) Ascertain that the copper laminated contacts of the main switch unit offer an exact plane bedding for the copper contactp plate on the main switch arm, when this is brought down just in contact. With a .020" non-magnetic distance piece between the core and the armature stop, the application of sufficient voltage to the coil to cause this distance piece to be held fast should result in every laminated copper contact being just in contact with the copper contact plate.

(2) Examine also the carbon contacts of the main switch unit for correct surface bedding, when the switch is depressed by a force applied to the copper contact arm. It should also be ascertained that the carbons are not cracked or chipped through tightening the screw securing clamps.

(3) Ascertain that the cylindrical surfaced contacts on the relay switch (both upper set and low set) are making correct line contact centrally, and also that the carbon contacts are bedding satisfactorily.

(4) It should be verified particularly that all screws upon which the electrical contacts depend are thoroughly tight.
