TO EFC. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to BJ. " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL RZ/M8.6.27. PHANTOM - re. IGNITION POSITIONS IN THE CHASSIS SWITCHBOX. X8730 X4008 I quite agree with the present arrangement of - M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} & C. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} B. & C. B. OFF. with the addition of an extra switch to cut out the charge. โ Pending an automatic control of the charging we recommend a separate charging switch. I presume that this will be one to break the dynamo exciting circuit only. โ Regarding the use of the magnetically operated control of the charge I cannot see how our agreed arrangement will work satisfactorily should the battery become disconnected. It suggests to me that the following arrangement is worth considering - Supposing we were to fit an electro magnetic device to act when any high electro motive force occurs such as is caused by a charged battery, a battery with insufficient water, or a disconnected battery, then the dynamo is put out of action by breaking the exciting circuit, which is not remade until the charging switch has been brought to the "off" position. Apparently this can only be done mechanically. I do not quite know how it is to be arranged at the moment, but I have little doubt that some fairly simple arrangement could be found if it is thought desirable. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
