B.80 UNIT NO.5 FOR 30,000 MILES. (30.G.VII). Given herewith is a report of the test bed running of the above unit, together with other results obtained on this type of unit in general since our last report. SPECIFICATION. The special features incorporated are:- (1) Crankcase in Nickel-Chrome-Molybdenum alloy, Nos. 1, 2, 7 and 8 bores being solid, the remainder having short inserted liners, Nos. 3 and 4 Hichrome and Nos. 5 and 6 Brivadium. (2) The exhaust valve seat arrangement is, Nos.1, 2, 3 and 4 seats cut direct in the crankcase, Nos. 5 and 6 in Nickel-chrome-molybdenum inserted seats and Nos.7 and 8 in Brico, also loose inserted seats. (3) 2.75" journal crankshaft V.C.M. with adapted Studebaker crank damper. (4) Vandervell three layer main bearings. (5) Solid stem exhaust valves. (6) Motor Component produced inlet valves. (7) Inlet valve seats in 3.5% nickel as against the original S.65. (8) Ph.III double springs adapted to inlet valves. (9) Short duration camshaft EB.4512. (10) Duplex downdraught Stromberg carburetter, 1.75 bore induction manifold, ECD.1298. | ||
