Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} c. CWB. Y8900 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5/H19.5.26. re. 11-EX. Sales 10,000 Miles Test Car. With reference to our test on the above car, Archer reports that during a run of 240 miles, the top gear slipped out on five occasions, and that this happened when running down hill with the throttle closed. I notice that this car is fitted with change gear mechanism similar to the 20-HP. type. I take it you are possibly aware of this trouble If not, I suggest that this point should receive investigation during the dismantling and inspection of the car. I have not yet seen a report from Sales as regards thier test of this car. I shall be glad to receive this and to know whether this point was mentioned or whether they experienced this trouble. If you have a spare copy of such a report I shall be glad to have one. As previously pointed out, I consider it is essential to keep me in touch with such tests, so that if possible, we can avoid perpetuating the delivery of cars which may give similar trouble in service. The following are also a few features which I noted during test of the above:- Steering. On the sticky side. Petrol consumption. Excessive. Brakes. Squeaking. Shudders take place when car is brought to a standstill by means of the hand brake. Servo jaggers and noisy brake mechanism. Steering controls rattle. Engine. Inclined to pick up rough. Inclined to detonate. Continues to run after switching off. Performance normal. Battery ignition failed. Signs of exhaust chirp. Tyre noises rather bad and the "Pomeroy Burton groan" rather pronounced. CONTINUED. | ||
