Instrument for cold-weather starting in vehicles and its potential application for aero engines.

A small hole for air is provided as shown. This also serves as a vent.

I was told that the wire used for the coil was soft steel but very much doubt this. The current is supplied from a 12 volt accumulator.

The instrument described in the foregoing appears to me to be extremely valuable for cars being used in Canada and the northern part of North America in winter when the temperature sometimes gets to 40° below zero, and with a poor grade of petrol, makes it very difficult to start up.

I suggest that where electrical starting is used for Aero Engine work, a similar or modified form of what is described above might be very useful.
