X457 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from CJ. Copy to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Low Pressure Tyres & Steering Wobbles. I am delighted to see that you are pressing for the hydraulic shock dampers, but I am rather alarmed to find that you are pressing for larger low pressure tyres in spite of the risk of high speed steering wobbles. Max Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has pointed out that the semi-balloon well-base tyre is definitely more susceptible to high speed wobbles than the straight-sided Dunlop cord. Wobbles are so terrible and so damaging to our reputation that I think we should do nothing which would encourage them. I fear we must be content with the present tyres until we have the hydraulic shock absorbers and I fear these may not be standardised for another three months. CJ. | ||
