Contd. -2- EPC6/T31.5.21. really a little better. On comparison of the operation of the cold and hot conditions of the two cutouts wound with Eureka and copper with the one wound with copper only, shows that the range of operation between hot and cold is slightly less in the former case than in the latter, but that both (after adjustment by us) are within the limits of our specification. Comparing the operation of the Smith cutout with the others, it will be seen that their range from cold to hot is distinctly less, probably due to their extra bulk, and in any case much more nearly to our specification. The C.A.V. type D cutout is quite near to our requirements and works very well, but on the whole there is no doubt in our minds that the Smith cutout is the best we know, taking everything into consideration, the quality of the Bleriot phi cutouts received not so far having been equal to the original samples. It should perhaps be remarked that the cutout with the Eureka and copper operated with smaller reverse currents than the one with copper only. It should also be stated that these two cutouts have been fitted by Messrs. Smith with the R.R. type of fuse holder and clips, so that it may be said that the cutouts embody all the improve-ments required by R.R. and operated in accordance with the R.R. Specification.
