Joint with Metal Water-excluder.

We have already sent to you a design showing aluminium front brake drums with fins. With this design it appears impossible to use a leather gaiter for the joint without the risk of the gaiter being cut, and it would appear that metal water-excluders will be needed. A design has previously been made and tested for 10,000 miles with success, we believe. We also believe that this type of excluder should be cheaper than the leather stocking.

With this joint the modified ball pads, as previously described, are used, but the lengthened ball pin is necessitated.

The previous remarks concerning the engagement of the positioning washer and the use of a castle nut apply also to this design, as also the remark concerning the radius to the undercut of the oilway. In order to provide clearance between the castle nut and the front axle the side steering lever has to be given a set of .325".
