40/50 CHASSIS.
EXHAUST CHOKE VALVE CONTROL. X4305 X3436

With reference to your scheme No.468, we have drawn over this a modification on the lines approved by Mr. Royce, in which the control rod and spring are both connected to one double lever on the valve spindle, and instead of using a slotted link, a take up lever is employed, acting on a loose lever floating on the throttle control shaft.

The spring is anchored to one of the forgings carrying the clutch pedal mechanism. We should like the spring to be horizontal (for the position of lever shewn) if the undershield will permit.

With regard to the position of the choke valve not becoming shifted we have shewn a dowel screw engaging with a slot cut in the exhaust downtake tube. This latter being made longer than hitherto. This dowel screw ensures and maintains the correct position of the choke valve, and can be unscrewed to facilitate removal of the exhaust downtake. It may be advisable to cut this slot in the downtake tube by means of a jig which locates by bedding on the union face on the top end of the tube, and also to take special care that the dowel screw hole is square with the silencer body.
