REPORT ON THE EXAMINATION OF THE PETROL PUMP OFF CHASSIS
3-AZ-22.

The complaint was one of poor delivery.

When tested on parafin this pump gave a flow of 200 pints an hour free flow, on increasing the delivery pressure the pump was inclined to work in step though the delivery was still sufficient.

All the valves were good and the setting of the toggle mechanism was good.

The most serious fault was that both diaphragms were porous although this car had only run 12,000 miles.

In conclusion we have no definite evidence of poor delivery when it was tested but it is difficult to reproduce the exact conditions on the chassis the tendency to pump in step may have been aggravated by a dirty or leaking filter which would reduce the delivery.

The Repair Department tested the pump on their rig when one side stuck as the pump became warm. We do not despite this though there was no evidence of any sticking when we tested it. It is possible the parafin used on the rig had freed the toggle mechanism.

We are reporting on the position with regard to leaky diaphragms.
