X8730 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from CJ. Copy to D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}, LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott}, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, C., Sv. EAC.II. Enclosed Body for Director's use. CJ9/E2/10/24 With reference to your memo. R1/M28/9/24, suggesting the manufacture of enclosed bodies to try on the EAC.II, we do not think that it would be wise for any mention to be made or indication to be given to Barker's or to any one else that it is intended to try the EAC.II with enclosed bodies until we are prepared to make an announcement concerning the EAC.II. There are chassis and bodies involving a sum of £450,000 to be disposed of before the EAC.II comes into regular manufacture and the general feeling is that even mention of the sports model must be deferred until we have liquidated the greater portion of this huge obligation. There is of course no reason why West WitteringHenry Royce's home town should not carry out their kind proposal to get out an outline and specification of enclosed bodies, provided that they are not communicated to or shown to anyone outside West WitteringHenry Royce's home town offices. The Coachbuilding Sub-Committee consider that the double enclosed drive limousine described in the second paragraph of your memo. would be the most suitable. It is possible that it may have a tendency to boom owing to its solid roof but leather roofs do not invariably overcome this tendency. CJ. | ||
