C. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BENSPORT.

We wish it to be appreciated that the recent desire to change the position of the supercharger and drive from the front of the engine to the side renders the rest of the chassis in such a state of flux that design work on many points has been completely held up.

Among the sections affected are the radiator, bonnet, dash, pedals, frame, brake and clutch operation, gearbox actuation, and steering column.

For want of a decision we are proceeding to the original layout - N. sch. 3476 - but it appears that an early conclusion is imperative if a lot of work is not to be wasted, and the car further delayed.

A full sized model chassis, complete with radiator, bonnet, dash, is in existence at Messrs Park Ward & Co. Ltd. and two bodies are in the course of construction, the saloon being well advanced.

We are allowing this work to progress. It is unfortunate that data on the effect of a long pipe between the engine and the supercharger, by tests on one of our own engines, was not available prior to settling on a position for the Bensport supercharger, and basing the whole chassis layout thereon.
