Dear Sir,

AIR MINISTRY TYPE TEST REGULATIONS FOR SERVICE ENGINES.

We desire to draw the attention of the Society to the ever increasing uncertainty regarding the requirements which have to be met in carrying out the Air Ministry's 100 hours type test that is necessary before an engine is accepted for installation in an aircraft for service in the Royal Air Force.

It is now several years since the last issue of A.P.840, and many complicated regulations have been introduced and are being enforced at engine makers' works which are not included in A.P.840.

We would suggest, therefore, that the time has now arrived when the Society should draw the attention of the Air Ministry to this matter and should request them to accelerate the issue of an official document clearly and completely laying down the conditions for the type test as they stand today.

We think that before the new schedule is actually printed it should first be fully discussed by the Engine Technical Committee among themselves, and then with the Air Ministry Officials responsible for its issue.

As we consider the matter has now become one of considerable urgency, we suggest that it would be a good plan to circulate this letter to the other engine builders in order to ascertain whether they are in agreement with our views on the subject.
