W/S {Derby Works / Sales} c. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} XLHUS EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 1/H3.12.26. re. Worst Features on 20-HP. Cars With reference to Sales memo. C13/C25.11.26. and Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reply, Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2/LG.29.11.26 - the usual question appears to arise :- Are we making the best of chassis turned out from the Works and complete cars from Coachbuilders? It has always been my endeavour to do this, even to the extent of upsetting the Works by delays, "hold ups" etc. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} I am sure appreciates this so far as complaints on new chassis at the Works are concerned, but as regards complaints on new complete cars and cars in customers' hands, this is, possibly, not the case. I again, therefore, bring forward the importance of such complaints being sent to the Works for my attention, so that the complaint can be definitely established, and the question of "degree" and development and effect of body fitted appreciated by the Works, Experimental and Design Departments, and some understanding arrived at for future action for dealing with (1) Complaints on cars in service, (2) New car deliveries from Coachbuilders, and (3) New chassis deliveries from the Works. Whilst appreciating the complaints, I must, when passing chassis at the Works, be guided by obtaining the best the Works can do at the time the chassis is delivered consistent with carrying out the present specified routine of alterations, standardisation, etc. I have always held the view that it is cheaper to delay deliveries rather than have complaints and then attend to them retrospectively, and have tried as far as possible to work on these lines.
