HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [crossed out] A.J. ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}5/M26.8.30. x4038 x7060 re. K.S. PETROL GAUGE TANK FITTING. We do not know whether we replied to your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL1/MJ23730., reporting on the improved tank fitting for the petrol gauge - N.sch.3028. At the moment we are fitting to a tank the new gauge fitting having the central vent and single pipe line but that does not prevent us from wishing to go on with N. sch. 3028. for immediate standardisation. We consider the pipes are detachable at both ends in our schemes, the joint at the tank being made by the cork face. As it is desired to fit a pump in order to clean the pipes of petrol and water we suggest that small pieces of tube be sweated into the tank fitting as illustrated in sketch below. This would enable a pump to be connected to any of the pipe lines. We fail to see why the rectangular hole in the rear cross member need be so large as .750" X 2". The banjo piece which we shew would appear to pass through a hole .750" x 1.250". We do not think it is serious that the union nut attaching the armouring to the banjo gives the impression that the pipes are detachable at that point. On removing the union nut, which we think might very well be nurled instead of a hexagon, it will be very obvious from the solder which will be seen that the pipes are sweated in. We would again point out that SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} is very anxious for this, or some other suitable fitting, to be standardised at the earliest possible date as it is almost a year ago since he asked for something to be done. The question of the rear apron and toolbox is in hand. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} RAE. SWEATED IN. [Stamp: RECEIVED AUG 29 1930] | ||
