Re. Professor E.C.Dodd's Bentley B.34.GA.

This Bentley was returned for misfiring on acceleration and excessive detonations at high speeds.

We traced the misfiring trouble to the coil which, by the way, was a P.III. coil, and gave more trouble hot than cold.

The detonations were above standard and came in at 2000 R.P.M. This was traced to the distributor, the spindle of which was .0035" out of truth. This makes an error of 7 degrees on the flywheel.

The trouble disappeared when the spindle had been squared up and the timing made standard. In view of the repeated troubles which this owner has had with ignition, caused mainly by his running conditions it was decided to fit a deturbulated cyl. head and ignition governor to suit. These are now standard Production.

We also fitted a set of small carburettors, these gave better distribution and good slow running.

The modifications carried out made the engine much smoother than previous and the detonations had entirely disappeared.
