are practically the only people who make their own Bakelite moldings. This of course is justified by their enormous output.

(7) FURTHER PARTICULARS.

The weatherproofness etc. of Condensite and Bakelite are identical.

The brown Bakelite, as used in our coil cases is a rather richer colour than the brown Condensite.

The black varieties are identical in appearance.

In a sheltered position like the bonnet of a car, the two materials will keep their luster indefinitely.

When subjected to much heat and exposed to weather, like a radiator cap, the material will become a trifle dull after a year or two.

The physical and electrical characteristics are not impaired by age.

The coefficient of expansion has not been obtained but is said to be very small as compared with metals.

(8) TIME OF OPERATION.

A distributor head will need 20 minutes for a complete operation, loading, pressing, curing, cooling and extracting.

A steering wheel will need 1 hour or more.

Small nuts are done in a few minutes.

(9) CORED MOLDINGS.

The Alden Napier Co. of this city are producing cored moldings by a new process of their own, with the primary intention of reducing the quantity of material used, for cheapening the product. This process, introduced for toilet seats, has been applied to a number of other uses. The core is evidently preformed of some substance which can be melted out or otherwise removed from the inside of the molded part after curing.

The internal finish of a cored molding can be made nearly as accurate and highly finished as the exterior.

(10) MOLDED PARTS.

All sorts of articles are now made of molded Bakelite, besides electrical insulation parts, the incentive being cheapness of manufacture. For example:-
