X4332 EFC. BY19/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 13. 6. 24. X4333 COMMUTATORS. X3573 Although not interested actually in changing from the present construction for our Commutators, it is interesting to note that I obtained from Mr.Brock some sheet Bakelite with the object of trying to ease the production of certain parts by using made-up bakelite in sheet form instead of in powder form. It simply means that partially formed material is pressed into sheets of different thicknesses, and the sheets in question are then used in the ordinary moulding process. Some of this type material I obtained from Mr.Brock to use in the form of a commutator to the improved schemes which we developed at the time we were intending to mould the commutator core in Bakelite. He has handed this to me, and would like you to run it on a rig to see how it stands up. I would again emphasize the fact that I should be very reluctant to depart from our present construction, but I see no objection to testing out the Commutator I am handing you herewith, from the point of view of speed and temperature. You will remember it was mainly temperature which was responsible, in Mr.Royce's opinion, for the failures. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [Signature] | ||
