X.4305 - RE. HOT SPOT THROTTLE INDUCTION PIPE.
X.4390

With reference to Mr. Olley's cablegram, though the translation is not quite clear, I understand what he generally means.

It appears that as regards to both starting and running with bad petrol, we have come to the conclusion that for the first move we ought to fit the small starting carburetter with its special pipe over to the spraying position and a new throttle valve of the present general pattern, but heated with exhaust gas.

These two items, combined with an efficient shutter arranged to maintain the temperature of the water and under the bonnet in winter seems to complete the first move towards a better system, and should be adopted pending further work in this direction, such as moving the carburetter to a higher position or on to the induction side, or better still, an entirely new engine.

We are now awaiting Derby to produce working drawings and the actual parts as models for Springfield to work to.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}

Will works inform Mr. Basil when these will be forwarded so that he can reply to CY's cablegram.
