We have received a wire from France to say that one of the corners of the flange which fixes the base of the steering column to the steering box, has broken. Tests shew that there is breathing at that joint i.e., .004" feeler can be inserted on the side between the brakes when the steering is turned with the car stationary. We have some cars running in which built up bosses have been brazed to the base of the steering tube. These were instructed by BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} On the bumping test this flange failed after 175 hrs. bumping. We are preparing a new steering column to be sent out for 93-NK. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
